Fall Classic Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Viewers In the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The exciting extra-inning clash that saw the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a aggregate over 50 million viewers in the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB reported this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic game secured 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It additionally stands as the most-watched World Series matchup after the 2017 final game between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a 16% improvement compared to the previous Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

Global Audience Numbers

In Canada, the game drew 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language program in Canada since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest began at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series averaged 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience growth for two consecutive seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the total US viewership reached 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent increase over last year and Fox’s best postseason ratings after 2017.

Major League Baseball announced that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
